  • How do you feel about your family, both two and four legged?
If you are like most people, you love them and want the best for them.  You make sure they get the best food, or that special treat, and that they have the best care as well.  You may even have a scrapbook for them (Oh no! that’s old school).  Okay, maybe you have a Facebook page where you document their life.  There are tons of pictures.  Each one more precious than the last.  You just can’t do enough for them.  Now it’s gift giving time and what do you get for those you love?  Or even, dare I say it, yourself?
You spend a lot of time doing the best for your two and four legged family members.  Time spent at the computer uploading all those photos.  You know, the ones from the last holiday, family get-together, trips, and so on.   You would love to have something even more special than just those photos.  It can be tough to find just the right gift for the person who has everything, or for a grieving family member or friend.  You really want the best for everyone you know.  Don’t you?
  • How do you get the perfect gift or preserve that cherished memory?
A beautiful work of art will capture those cherished memories, taking you and your loved ones back to that moment, remembering the fun and excitement of that time, or perhaps the soft fur and wet kisses of a beloved pet.  A piece done in acrylic will add a colorful dimension to you and your loved one’s home, or you can make a striking statement with a piece done in pencil, showing a dramatic scene in black and white with numerous shades of gray.
I’m Jo Lawson, The Playful Artist, and I can help you with the best gift for all occasions in your life.  I received a degree from The Art Institute.  I have created numerous works of art across several mediums.  I focus primarily on acrylic and pencil.  My acrylic pieces capture beautiful scenes of flowers and landscapes and are a great way to add color to your home.  My pencil pieces have stunning shades of gray along with contrasting blacks and whites, showing the intricate features of each subject, bringing them to life.
I have been an artist since high school.  When it came time to choose a career, my strong willed and loving mother said “No way” to art.  So while I was in school I also studied business administration.  That is what I ultimately did, and still do for my daily bread.  As time progressed, I let life take the lead and my dreams of working as an artist fell asleep.  I won’t say they died.  Those dreams are a part of what makes me, me.  Well, I got married had two great sons and life was full and happy.  Just no art to keep me happy.  Now I have the time to pursue my art career.   I work in pencil for portraits.  This shows the strong contrast of light and dark.  By using the simple black and white of a pencil, I am able to show the personality of the subject.  My work can stir up many emotions.  It will make you smile as you recall fond memories of someone lost to you, and you may become sad because you miss them and still have deep feelings for them. My goal is to have my art touch you in some way.
